Hello and welcome to UpLit,¹ a professional editorial service dedicated to creating Uplifting Literature.

I’m Swetha. I help authors, publishers, and brands craft compelling narratives that honor their unique voice while bringing clarity, coherence, and polish. My passion is using words to educate, empower, and inspire meaningful personal and collective transformation.

I work across a diverse range of nonfiction genres spanning health and healing, movement and exercise, psychology, memoir, finance, business, philanthropy, research-backed self-help, personal growth, philosophy, spirituality, parenting, family and relationships, leadership, social change, history, poetry, architecture, art, photography, culture, nature, and environmental topics.

Drawing on my Asian Indian heritage and my background in Iyengar Yoga, including a two-year, 500-hour teacher training and apprenticeship at Adeline Yoga, Berkeley, I also offer subject-matter expertise for yoga-related books, covering anatomy, āsana, and philosophy. My proficiency in the Devanagari script and foundational Sanskrit enables me to provide transliteration support and editorial oversight for Sanskrit-to-English translations.

With over fifteen years of experience encompassing editorial work, business administration, and fast-paced, collaborative business and technology consulting, I bring a broad and versatile set of skills to every project. Throughout my consulting career, I led project teams and delivered enterprise-wide training for mission-critical initiatives. I hold a Professional Sequence in Editing certificate from the University of California, Berkeley Extension, and an MS with Honors in Management Information Systems from Texas A&M University. I serve as the Chief Financial Officer (pro bono) for Editcetera, a self-governing association of freelance publishing professionals founded in 1971. I also continue to expand my expertise through engagement and training with the Publishing Professionals Network (PPN), Editcetera, and BAWiP, where I am an active member.

For editing projects: I offer substantive editing, line editing, and copyediting, along with thoughtful, candid feedback aimed at strengthening clarity and credibility while elevating the author’s distinctive style. I specialize in works with extensive notes or bibliographies that require meticulous research, fact-checking, and attention to detail. Every book project includes a custom style sheet to support consistency throughout the manuscript.

For proofreading projects: Beyond reviewing text for grammar, formatting, and typography, I check for accuracy and consistency across typesetting, design elements, and content.

All work is completed according to your house style or preferred style guide and dictionary. I am proficient in print and digital markup, The Chicago Manual of Style, and industry-standard tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
